Depression led Hayley Williams to quit Paramore band as its lead vocalist sometime in 2015.

In an interview with The Fader, Williams opened up about her battle with depression, which she described as being in a state of hopelessness.

“For the first time in my life, there wasn’t a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “I thought, I just wish everything would stop. It wasn’t in the sense of, I’m going to take my life. It was just hopelessness,” she said. “I don’t think I understood how dangerous hopelessness is. Everything hurts.”

But with the help of band member Taylor York and album co-producer Justin Meldal-Johnson, Williams was able to recover and record new music. “I was just done. I thought, There’s gotta be something else that I’m good at in my life. Maybe it’s time for me to go find that,” Williams added.

In May, the pop rock band dropped their fifth studio “After Laughter” after teasing longtime fans with their singles “Hard Times” and “Told You So.”  Gianna Francesca Catolico /ra
