WATCH: Jake Gyllenhaal plays Boston Marathon bombing survivor in ‘Stronger’
In the new heart-wrenching trailer for “Stronger” (the film to be released in the United States on September 22) Gyllenhaal plays Jeff Bauman, a symbol of survival and hope after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.
On April 15, 2013, Jeff Bauman was in the crowd to encourage his girlfriend running in the Boston Marathon when he was seriously injured by one of the bombs placed close to the finish line. He lost both his legs and became a symbol of courage in the U.S. by helping the authorities to identify the bombers.
The trailer focuses on his battle to adjust to his new life: learning how to walk again on prosthetics, and holding onto his relationship with his partner Erin Hurley, despite physical and mental pain.
Jake Gyllenhaal stars alongside Tatiana Maslany, a Canadian actress best known for her role in the series “Orphan Black”.
Directed by David Gordon Green (“Prince of Texas”, “Our Brand is Crisis”), the film is based on Jeff Bauman’s memoir released in May 2015. JB
