Camila Cabello almost sang ‘Closer’ with The Chainsmokers
Camila Cabello almost collaborated with The Chainsmokers for the song “Closer,” which blossomed into a global earworm and became the second to hit a billion streams on music-streaming service Spotify.
Speaking on the radio program “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” the former Fifth Harmony member explained why she had to naysay the offer, which was eventually given to singer Hasley. The host even played a snippet of Cabello’s demo for “Closer.”
“I loved the song, but I had to turn it down because I was with the group at the time, and we were about to put an album out,” she said.
Before she exited the all-girl group last December, Cabello teamed up with solo artists Shawn Mendes for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and with Machine Gun Kelly for “Bad Things.” She anchored her solo career soon after and released singles including “Crying in the Club.”
But still, Cabello has no regrets with her decision. She added, “So I didn’t wanna—I always tried to do my solo stuff off-cycle, so that was super on, and so I had to say no, and then that was the number one song in the world.”
