Claire Foy rumored to play Lisbeth Salander in Millennium sequel
The British actress who is known for her role in the Netflix series The Crown is reported to be the favorite to play Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”, the next movie adaptation of the Millennium series of crime novels.
Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson were rumored to be in the frame. But Variety reports that Claire Foy has been picked by Sony, which met with a dozen actresses in its search for a replacement for Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace, who both played the famous hacker dreamed up by author Stieg Larsson.
According to Variety, nothing has been signed as yet, and Damien Chazelle is also interested in Foy for “First Man”, his upcoming Neil Armstrong biopic starring Ryan Gosling. Nonetheless, Sony could very soon be making an offer to the British actress who won a Golden Globe in January for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown”.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web will begin shooting in September with Uruguayan Fede Alvarez (“Don’t Breathe”) as its director. It will be based on the fourth novel in the Millennium series, the only one not written by Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004.
Before that, Sony will have to find a replacement for Daniel Craig to play the journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The film is slated for release in North America on October 19, 2018.
