The long-awaited follow-up to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” finally has a release date, reports Variety.

The sequel to the 2011 Oscar-nominated first movie, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”, has now been confirmed for release on October 5, 2018.

However, the film will be without its original stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, as a whole new cast is coming on board for the project.

According to insiders, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson are among the actresses who could follow Mara in taking on the role of lead character Lisbeth Salander, with Noomi Rapace playing Salander in the original Swedish trilogy.

“Don’t Breathe” director Fede Alvarez will helm the project.

Written by David Lagercrantz, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the fourth book in the Millennium series and follows the original trilogy written by Stieg Larsson before his untimely death.

The new book will be the first in the series to be produced first as an English-language film, with the previous books all first adapted into Swedish-language films. JB
