Adam Levine paid tribute to one of his proteges, the late songstress Christina Grimmie, with a rendition of “Hey Jude” on Wednesday’s (Tuesday in the US) episode of “The Voice.”
Levine, who coached Grimmie on the show’s sixth season until she was elevated to the finals, led current mentees Jesse Larson, Lilli Passero and Mark Isaiah as they sang the timely ballad of The Beatles.
“I miss her, it’s unfair that she’s not here and we’re gonna sing her a little song tonight, and I’m going to be singing every word to her in her honor,” Levine told Grimmie’s grieving family members, who were in the audience.
During the occasion, host Carson Daly also announced the birth of the Christina Grimmie Foundation, which will assist breast cancer-stricken patients and victims of gun rampage like the late singer.
In June last year, Grimmie was gunned down by a troubled fan while she was signing autographs after a gig in Orlando, Florida. Her shooter took his life afterward.
