Also known as “Mahouka”, the anime film was inspired by an ongoing light novel series of the same name written by Tsutomu Satou. It follows the story of brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba as they cope with life in magic high school, along with the politics and the dark side of the lives of magicians in the modern world.

The light novel was first published in 2011 and currently has 20 volumes. A 26-episode TV anime adaptation aired between April and September 2014.

The movie will premiere in Japanese theaters on June 17 and ticket-selling will begin on April 29. Advance screenings will also be held on June 5 at Tokyo and Osaka theaters for 750 people. Applications to view the screenings must be submitted before May 12. Alfred Bayle/JB
