‘Beauty and the Beast’ breaks ‘Captain America’ PH sales record
Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” is now officially the highest-grossing movie ever released in the Philippines, a Walt Disney Studios Philippines spokesman said on Wednesday.
The romantic fantasy-musical starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast, surpassed Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) for the record after posting a cumulative gross of P667.46 million on Tuesday, the 27th day of its release.
The top five films included in the all-time rankings in the country were all distributed by Disney, with Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015) in third place, Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” (2013) and Marvel’s “The Avengers” (2015) in fourth and fifth places respectively.
“Beauty and the Beast” tells the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a prince who was cursed to become a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to see beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior to recognize his kind heart.
The film also stars Luke Evans as Gaston, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Josh Gad as Lefou, with Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen, and Emma Thompson as the Beast’s enchanted staff.
The movie is still playing in cinemas across the Philippines. IDL
