Madonna adopts orphaned twins from Malawi—reports

Madonna has extended her large family by accommodating two orphaned twins from Malawi.
In a confirmation to People and BBC, Malawi’s judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said that the pop legend had filed a request at the high court in Malawi to adopt a pair of 4-year-old orphaned twins.

Together with her lawyer, Madonna appeared in court on Tuesday and met the twins, who were accompanied by their biological father and uncle. The children’s mother passed away after they were born in August 2012, and due to financial perils, they ended up in an orphanage.
Mvula told the news site that the “Open Your Heart” singer, 58, “exuded happiness” and “smiled while she was making her way out of the courtroom, and then she drove away” with them.
Earlier, Madonna denied reports from news outlets that she was seeking to adopt two more children from Malawi, saying she was in the country to visit a children’s hospital and her NGO.

This is not the first time that Madonna adopted children from the East African nation. The mother to Lourdes Leon, 20, and Rocco Ritchie, 16, previously adopted Malawian kids David Banda and Mercy James in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Likewise, she is active in fostering her charity organization, Raising Malawi, to uplift the lives of destitute children.
“Madonna has been very close to Malawi,” Mvula told People. “She has been involved in so many projects and is currently helping to expand the children’s ward at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. So Madonna has been coming to Malawi frequently. So it is not unusual to people in Malawi at all.
