Jennifer Aniston slams ‘gossipy media’ in powerful essay
Jennifer Aniston has been in the limelight for nearly two decades, but said recently that she has had enough of body shaming and false accusations that she was pregnant.
“For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up,” the 47-year-old “Friends” actress wrote in a compelling essay posted on The Huffington Post on Tuesday.
“I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of ‘journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment’ and ‘celebrity news,'” she added. Several paparazzi outlets speculated that she was pregnant after pictures of her in a bikini emerged from her recent vacation in the Bahamas.
She slammed several media outlets for disrupting her privacy with her husband, Justin Theroux, and asked them to focus their resources on the more important news. “The sheer amount of resources being spent right now by press trying to simply uncover whether or not I am pregnant…points to the perpetuation of this notion that women are somehow incomplete, unsuccessful, or unhappy if they’re not married with children” she said in her riveting essay.
“We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child. We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies. That decision is ours and ours alone. Let’s make that decision for ourselves and for the young women in this world who look to us as examples. Let’s make that decision consciously, outside of the tabloid noise. We don’t need to be married or mothers to be complete. We get to determine our own ‘happily ever after’ for ourselves,” she stressed.
The Hollywood star expressed the hope that someday, celebrity news and tabloids would be “forced to see the world through a different, more humanized lens.” Gianna Francesca Catolico
