K-pop girl group 4Minute may not stay together when the members’ contracts with agency Cube Entertainment end around mid-June, local media reported Monday, quoting industry insiders.
Only Kim Hyun-a, better known by her stage name HyunA, has renewed her contract, as the other bandmates are still discussing whether to renew or leave the agency.
“Each member has a different career goal in mind and it was considered difficult to remain a team,” said the industry insider.
News of the group’s possible disbandment comes as a surprise, as the group released their seventh EP album “Act.7” in February.
The group consisting of five members–Nam Ji-hyun, Heo Ga-yoon, Jeon Ji-yoon, Kim and Kwon So-hyun–debuted with their first single “Hot Issue” in June 2009. The group was the first ever formed by the agency.
Girl group 4Minute has been successful with numerous hit songs, including “Heart To Heart,” “Crazy” and “What’s Your Name?”
Meanwhile, HyunA, who has also been pursuing a solo career since 2010, is currently working on a new solo album.
