Carlo J. Caparas posts bail for tax raps

Movie director Carlo J. Caparas on Monday posted a total of P80,000 bail for his temporary liberty in connection with the four counts of tax evasion cases filed against him by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Caparas has been required by the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) first and second divisions to pay P20,000 for each of the four counts of violation of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) filed against him.

The Tax Court’s First Division has set his arraignment on June 22 for one count of tax evasion case while the Tax Court’s Second Division has set the arraignment on June 8 for the three other tax evasion cases.

Caparas was accused of failing to file his income tax for the years 2006 to 2009 and failed to declare his earnings for producing the “Ang Pangarap Kong Jackpot” television drama of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

The new batch of cases against Caparas was filed by the DOJ with the CTA last April. It stemmed from the complaint filed with the DOJ by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

He is facing four separate counts of tax evasion and is now undergoing trial for failing to file Value Added Tax (VAT) returns for the years 2006 to 2009 where BIR said his liability is P101,819,722.19. RAM/rga
