Young actor Juancho Triviño entered show biz with the goal of becoming a leading man. He now is, via GMA 7’s new afternoon soap, “Magkaibang Mundo.”

And although under pressure to deliver, he is brimming with excitement and, at the same time, hopeful that he would be able to follow in the footsteps of actor Dingdong Dantes, whom he idolized growing up.

“Dingdong is the one I looked up to when I was younger…I watched his shows, especially ‘Encantadia.’ I am a big fan of how he handles his career,” Juancho told the Inquirer at a recent press conference. “He is someone I would like to emulate.”

But he remains levelheaded. The Kapuso talent does not want to get ahead of himself and think that his first starring role would suddenly boost his profile. “We will have to wait and see how we do. I will be working and praying hard—I want to push myself,” he said.

“Not everyone is given this kind of opportunity. I have the things I need, and so it’s up to me to make the most of it,” he added. “This industry is fickle and unpredictable, and I hope this show helps me in the long run.”

In his four years in the business, Juancho has already had the privilege of working with some of the country’s show biz icons.
In the recently concluded TV series, “Little Nanay,” the actor was able to share the screen with multiawarded thespians Nora Aunor and Eddie Garcia.

“Tito Eddie doesn’t talk much. But you can learn a lot from him by just watching him perform. His work ethic is also inspiring to see…When he isn’t doing a scene, you can see him writing down notes,” recounted Juancho, who also learned a great deal from Nora.

“She always emphasized the importance of putting our hearts in the things we do—in our craft, how we deal with the people we work with,” he said.

In “Magkaibang Mundo,” a mix of romance and fantasy, Juancho plays Elfino, a dwarf who falls in love with Princess (Louise de los Reyes).
Much like the Hulk, Elfino’s clothes end up getting ripped off once he transforms and assumes normal human size. Needless to say, the role requires Juancho to show some skin.

Not a problem. He has always been comfortable with his body, he pointed out, and has cranked up his fitness routine as of late. “I started working out more intensively in January. I thought, improving my physique will help me with my confidence,” Juancho said.

He is not, however, planning to bank on his looks. At the end of the day, Juancho said, it is about showing the audience good acting skills and other talents. “There’s always room for improvement. I want to be a complete package—to be able to host, sing act and dance,” he related.
