Netflix acquires U.S. rights for “The Little Prince”

The Internet-television network Netflix has picked up Paramount Pictures’ domestic rights to the animated movie, ‘The Little Prince’.
The film, based on the 1943 book by French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery, had been originally scheduled for a March 18 theatrical release, until Paramount decided to denounce its claim.
The much anticipated CG-slow motion film will now be released later this year through online streaming.
Director Mark Osborne confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter: “As it turns out, the much anticipated U.S. release of this special and unique film will have to be anticipated just a little bit more.”

The Oscar nominee continued, “All I can say is [The Little Prince] will in fact be released by another distributor later this year.”

“The Little Prince” premiered in last year’s Cannes Film Festival and has grossed an astonishing $100 million internationally.
It features a voice cast which includes Hollywood actors Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, James Franco and Benicio del Toro.
Paramount has yet to comment about why they dropped the film.
