WHAT A BLAST I had at the opening of Skinita Street Foodz (D’Strip, United Street, Kapitolyo, Pasig). Ai-Ai delas Alas’ son, Sancho, is part-owner of the hip resto/bar that serves street food with a twist.

Everything on its menu is quite addicting. I love the cool vibe of the joint, especially its hugot wall, where customers can freely write their sentiments.

Ai portrayed her “Best Supporting Role” as a mom to Sancho that night. She table-hopped, making sure everyone was well-fed and booze-ified.

FEATURED STORIES

Ai was accompanied by her boyfriend, Gerald Sibayan—a La Salle graduating student. She plans to put up a franchise of the resto in the University belt area.

Sancho got sound advice from his mom for his resto endeavor and his foray into show biz. “She told me to think 100 times before making decisions about my business and to be respectful of senior stars in the industry.”

On his mom’s love life, Sancho said:

“After all the heartaches that my mom had been through, there was a time she told me and my siblings that she didn’t want to fall in love again and she would just focus on us. But we told her not to lose hope, because we want to see her happy with the right guy. We get along with her boyfriend Gerald and we approve of him for Mama.”

I’ve known Ai since her early days in the biz. So I’m happy that she has gone way beyond what she had ever dreamed of. And now, she is paving the way for her son to live his dreams, too. Ai and Sancho are each other’s strength.

Here’s my chat with Ai:

What did you learn from Sancho?

That our children are also capable of giving us unconditional love. It’s not just us parents who love our kids unconditionally. If other people turn their backs on me, I can count on my children, who will never abandon me!

Is Gerald already “The One?”

Definitely! Gosh! I’m already of age, so this must already be it!

Aside from your movie, “My Bebe Love,” what Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries would you want to watch?

All the entries except the horror films. I never liked horror.

Any amusing anecdotes with Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza while shooting your movie?

I asked both of them what gift they would want to give each other on their monthsary if and when they become officially a couple. Maine said, a “car,” while Alden said in jest, his “body.” Then Maine joked, “If that’s the case, let’s make it a weeksary, instead!”
