In a statement, Amalia Fuentes’ grandchildren—Alyanna, Alfonso and Alissa Martinez—have confirmed that the movie queen had suffered “an ischemic stroke on Oct. 9, while vacationing in South Korea.”
They recalled that she was fortunately discovered by a friend in her hotel room in time and was “immediately rushed to a hospital in Seoul, where she was placed in an intensive care unit.”
Three weeks later, the Martinezes recounted, “her Korean doctors allowed her to travel back to the Philippines since her condition had stabilized already.”
On Oct. 27, when she arrived in Manila, an ambulance parked on the tarmac was waiting for her.
From the airport, she was brought “straight to a Metro Manila hospital where she is currently receiving the best care possible.”
“We were informed by her doctors that she can hopefully leave the hospital in two weeks,” the Martinezes said in the statement. “She will continue her recuperation at home and will be undergoing extensive therapy soon after.”
Another family member confirmed that the actress-producer is “fine and stable.”
The Muhlachs and the Martinezes are appealing to Fuentes’ fans and the public-at-large for prayers.
“We, her grandchildren, pray for her immediate and full recovery,” they said.
