For Dingdong Dantes, entering politics isn’t in his immediate plans. What he’s currently focused on is his forthcoming fatherhood.

The 35-year-old Kapuso star  has been rumored to be in the senatorial lineup of Sen. Grace Poe, who is reportedly set to announce her presidential bid today.

“I don’t think about these things (political plans). Right now, what’s important is my family and the baby,” he told reporters at a press conference for the latest edition of GMA 7’s reality talent search “StarStruck,” which the actor hosts with Miss World 2013 and Season 2 contestant Megan Young.

Speculations about his supposed political plans were fueled last year, when the GMA 7 actor—who’s expecting his first baby with wife, Marian Rivera, in November—was appointed commissioner at large of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

“People have opinions, but I am very firm that I will not run,” he said. “My term (at the NYC) ends in 2017, and I want to do my duties and serve well until then. There are things we still have to fulfill, which we don’t want to be muddied up by politics … we’re answerable to the Filipino youth.”

Asked if he was open to endorsing a candidate, Dingdong didn’t give a specific answer and instead urged people to be responsible in choosing potential leaders.

According to Dingdong, the idea of being a father excites him so much that he can’t sleep some nights. “I’ve never been so thrilled. I’m motivated to work harder and do better things,” he said. “It’s as if everything I do now has more meaning.”

Dingdong said he wouldn’t be accepting any more demanding projects in the next couple of months to ensure that he would be there when his wife needs him most.
