Enrique Gil owns up to his mistake

/ 11:03 PM September 15, 2015

Enrique Gil was gentleman enough to make a public apology to Jessy Mendiola for his drunken behavior while they were en route to London. His “act of contrition” was aired on “TV Patrol.” I salute Enrique for owning up to his mistake. Even celebs like him, who are put on a pedestal, make a slip every now and then. It only goes to show that our idols are no demigods. They are far from perfect, just like other mortals.

Prior to Enrique’s apology, Jessy’s mom, Didith Garvida granted my son, IC Mendoza an exclusive interview in TV 5’s “Showbiz Konek na Konek.” A mother is a mother is a mother.

Here are excerpts from that interview:

“My heart goes out to my daughter. She told me that she is not as famous as her costars. But whether or not she is famous, she will always be my Jessy. I will always be there to protect her. I told her that being  a woman doesn’t mean that she’s weak. Even with just a whisper, she can show her strength. To her bashers and haters, thank you for making us—Jessy and I—stronger.”

Busy Buboy

My BFF Cesar Montano is too busy to be bothered by the controversies hounding him. He is shooting a new film, “Nilalang,” almost every day. Buboy (Cesar’s nickname) is working with two gorgeous ladies, Maria Ozawa and Yam Concepcion. I won’t be surprised if rumors will circulate that he is involved with either Maria or Yam. That’s the way intrigue goes.

Buboy has become immune to scandals already. “Funny that when I’m with any woman in a picture, people often assume we are dating, even when it’s just a photo-op,” he quips. His antidote to crazy rumors is his sense of humor.

Buboy gives us some details about the movie:

“Yam plays the sister of Kazumi (portrayed by Maria). Meg Imperial plays my fellow NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) agent. Our mission is to solve the mysterious deaths of women. At first, we thought the murders were being done by a serial killer or a copycat, which were initially committed in Japan. In the end, we found out that an evil spirit possessed a person that led him to perpetuate those crimes.”

He adds, “The Japanese father of Kazumi has the book and dagger that … [would enable them] to get rid of the evil spirit. Both Maria and Yam are humble, pretty and, most of all, professional.”

Moving on

After Myrtle Sarrosa’s thwarted romance with Brian Poe Llamanzares, she is moving on and moving up. The Ilongga charmer is raring to unleash all she’s got in ABS-CBN’s “Your Face Sounds Familiar (YFSF) Season 2.”

Her initial performance as Sandara Park wowed the judges (Sharon Cuneta, Jed Madela and Gary Valenciano) and the audience as well. That was just a warm-up. Myrtle is all set to soar and roar!

Here’s my tête-à-tête with the “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 4” winner:

How do you feel about your YFSF stint?

MS: I’m a bit nervous but I am more excited. Not too many people know that I sing, that’s why I am eager to surprise people with my performances. I also want to pay tribute to artists we idolize through my impersonations. I’m happy with my costars in the show. We enjoy it so much that I sometimes forget it’s work.

If given a choice, who are the top five celebrities you want to impersonate?

Justin Bieber, Sylvia La Torre, Avril Lavigne, Hayley Williams and Iggy Azalea.

What was your reaction when Brian Poe gave Jasmine Curtis-Smith flowers in her press conference?

Surprisingly, I’m okay with it. He has moved on and so have I. I guess it’s because I’ve realized that I deserve someone better. The work God has blessed me with has helped me move on. Aside from YFSF, I’m also part of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association in the Philippines), Hero TV and “Umagang Kay Ganda.”

How’s your relationship with Brian after the split?

I respect him, but I don’t think I can still be friends with him.

‘Imagine’ benefit concert

On Oct. 2, let your imagination take you to a different path, one that will not only change lives but also perspectives. Let the music of the Original Spirit of ’67 become an instrument of awakening that will impact communities and the economy.

Happening at the Pavilion AB of Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club, “Imagine” is a benefit concert for Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm (GKEF). The show aims to create awareness of the farm’s ongoing development programs and introduce the School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (known as SEED Philippines), which is touted as the first farm village university in the world.

The event also aims to encourage individuals and companies to donate a classroom or a dormitory or sponsor deserving students as scholars.

“The show is about building a Filipino dream,” says Tony Meloto, founder of  Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation Inc., a Philippine-based movement that aims to end poverty for five million families by restoring the dignity of the poor.

Joining the featured band are GKEF Student Choir and the former street children of Tatalon. There will also be exhibit installations for the advocacies of Gawad Kalinga and product booths of its artisans. For tickets, call 886-4950 or e-mail [email protected]
