Producers of "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella" said Sunday that the Canadian singer-songwriter will take over the role of Cinderella starting Feb. 4 for 12 weeks. She’ll take over from Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes. Jepsen, a Grammy Award nominee, began performing in musical theater in high school, starring in “Annie,” “The Wiz” and “Grease” before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts. She’ll be joining the cast alongside Fran Drescher paying Cinderella's stepmother. Drescher, an Emmy Award winner for "The Nanny," takes over the Harriet Harris’ role. The Tony-nominated musical has been given a makeover by Douglas Carter Beane, who has turned the fairy tale into a charming, witty story updated for a new generation. AP

For a while, Carly Rae Jepsen, of the 2012 viral song “Call Me Maybe,” seemed to be on her way to becoming a one-hit wonder. But to those who readily dismiss her as such, the Canadian singer-songwriter has come up with a rather emphatic response—her third studio album, the 1980s-inspired “Emotion.”

The new record, which spawned another earworm, “I Really Like You,” is replete with glossy, catchy ditties, and has been getting positive reviews from critics. So, when she takes the stage for her concert tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, fans can expect the 29-year-old pop artist to dish out a set list that’s considerably stronger than the one she delivered in her Manila show two years ago.

In a statement, Jepsen said that “Emotion” was a product of “experimentation and creative soul-searching that thrived along with her passion as an artist.”
