HE ISN’T as active as a performer due to his duties as a public servant, says Dingdong Avanzado.

If there was one thing Dingdong Avanzado realized from the online fracas caused by actress Isabelle Daza’s use of the hashtag #siquiWhores in one of her Instagram posts, it’s that social media has truly—and drastically—changed the way information is disseminated and consumed.

“Social media has changed a lot of things … Back then, you could make a joke like that and no one would make a big fuss. But things are different now because of the Internet … people will inevitably react,” the singer and incumbent Siquijor vice governor told reporters at a press conference. “I got upset because netizens picked it up.”

Avanzado stressed that he has nothing against Daza, who eventually apologized for the post and told the singer-turned-politician that she enjoyed herself during her trip to the province.

“I thought it was probably said in jest, a play of words… But the bottom line was that people were offended,” he said adding that some of his constituents called his attention, asking him to fix the issue.

“That’s something I can’t simply brush aside. But the good thing is that Isabelle was given a chance to air her side and she already apologized,” he related. “There was no need to make the situation worse.”

Birth anniversary

That’s all in the past, said Avanzado, who’s headlining a solo concert for the first time in more than a year.

Titled “#Hitback,” the concert is set tonight at the Teatrino, Promenade in Greenhills, San Juan.

“I haven’t been active in the concert circuit because of my duties as a public servant. For my birth anniversary, however, I wanted to do something I sorely missed,” said Avanzado, who turned 47 last July 7. “I get a sense of fulfillment when I’m onstage, especially when I love the music and atmosphere. I’m looking forward to seeing people have a good time.”

Known for the songs “Basta’t Kasama Kita,” “Tatlong Beinte Singko” and “Maghihintay sa ’Yo,” the singer said the show will also be his modest contribution to the Linggo ng Musikang Filipino, which will be observed in the last week of July.

“I’m doing all OPM songs—my past hits, and covers of local songs, which I will perform with the band The Doorbells. I’m excited about jamming with my guest Noel Cabangon. My wife Jessa Zaragoza and my daughter Jada will also be there,” he said.
