Angelica Panganiban portrays ‘lovable’ baddie
The last time Angelica Panganiban portrayed a villainess was in “Iisa Pa Lamang.” Now, she’s back portraying a baddie everyone loves to hate, in “Pangako Sa ‘Yo,” as Claudia Buenavista.
According to director Olivia Lamasan, Angelica was the natural choice for the role: “Nobody could be as campy and be a baddie at the same time. But, Angelica can also be lovable and vulnerable.”
Angelica sees the role as a challenge. She explains, “It’s a privilege to play the character. I did have hesitations because I’m playing mother to Angelo, a 20-year-old. Would we be believable and credible? But, if Tita Malou (Santos) didn’t doubt me, why should I doubt myself?”
Lamasan adds, “Jean (Garcia) was only 30 when she played Claudia, and Eula (Valdez) was 29 when she portrayed Amor 15 years ago. Actresses who play mothers are getting younger.”
Angelica is happy that the series has given Claudia a back story, including her character’s relationship with her parents. She beams, “I’m enjoying myself!”
