MANILA, Philippines—Maintaining a show biz career while raising kids is no easy task. That’s why actress Sunshine Dizon is grateful for her “great support system.”

During a press conference for the GMA 7 series “Pari Koy,” Sunsine, 31, described non-show biz husband Timothy Tan as a very good family man.

“It would be a big issue for some men to do things deemed for women. Not for my husband,” she said. “He spends time with the children, takes them to school … no problem.” Timothy used to work as pilot; he now runs a family-owned supermarket in Pampanga.

Four-year break

Sunshine took a four-year break from the biz, from 2009 to 2013, so she could focus on having children and taking care of them. She has two now— Doreen, 3, and Antonio, 2.

She related, “The challenge now is explaining to my eldest why I have to leave the house for tapings. Sometimes, I’m at work for a few straight days. She’d ask me not to go next time. I tell her I need to go, so I can buy her toys and send her to school. I feel torn at times, but every working parent faces these things.”

She recently signed a three-year contract with the Kapuso network. “I initially signed up for just one year, to test the waters.”

It’s important, Sunshine stressed, to make a clear distinction between career and family life. “At work, I give 100 percent. Otherwise, I’m just a mother, a normal person,” she said. “I always try to spend quality time with my family.”
