Tom Rodriguez is raring to move to his new bachelor pad. It’s a product of his blood, sweat and tears. I remember when, accompanied by GMA 7 executives, I visited Tom on the set of “My Husband’s Lover,” I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that we had previously met—during an interview on TV 5’s defunct talk show, “Paparazzi.” That first meeting had slipped my mind. But this second up close and personal encounter with Tom is something I will not forget. He made me feel instantly at home.

Thumb’s up for Tom!

FEATURED STORIES

What’s the concept of the interiors of your new place?

Actually, there’s no concept. I just wanted it to be minimalist and, at the same time, for it to have relevant details that reflect who I am as a person. There is an entertainment area where I can relax, watch movies or play video games; a work area where I can paint and draw; and a gouache Superman painting by Alex Ross for my inner geek.

What’s the most expensive item in your home?

My computer, my bathtub, TV and an Alex Ross painting.

What are your cheap thrills?

They range from extreme sports to couch surfing while playing an action video game or reading an adventure book.

What are your thoughts on jealousy?

A reasonable amount of jealousy can be healthy in a relationship. It shows your partner means a lot to you. But too much of it could be damaging because it could lead to insecurities and full-blown quarrels.

What’s the best thing that happened to you in 2014?

Getting to host my own game show (“Don’t Lose the Money”) for the very first time, learning a new skill and building meaningful relationships.

What’s the biggest challenge that you hurdled in 2014?

The challenge of everyday work where I only get two hours of sleep per day. Now I realize what my coactors used to tell me. But this is seasonal. It can be planned and prepared for.

What’s the biggest misconception about you?

Some people think I am moody, or that I get mad easily. I am actually an easygoing and loving person. I want to get along with everyone and I make sure everyone around me is happy.

What are your thoughts on marriage? What age would you settle down?

Marriage is something that I’ve always seen for myself in the future. I’ve never seen myself as an old bachelor. When I was in high school, I thought 26 was the ideal marrying age. It turns out that it’s not something you can plan.

[Speaking of which] God has a plan for me so I try to discern it. I would really like to start my own family when I am financially ready. I have to make sure I have enough savings for my future children.

It’s not advisable to start a family if you can’t provide for the kids’ needs.

Destination: Love City

Being an Ilongga at heart, I was overjoyed to go back to my second home, Iloilo, for The Rumour (TR) Productions’ lifestyle party dubbed “Destination in the City of Love” held on Nov. 29 at the Royal Garden Hall.

It was a first for Iloilo.

Revelers from neighboring cities, Iloilo’s crème de la crème and show biz personalities like Gretchen Fullido, my dalagay IC Mendoza, Pat and Alyanna Martinez, chef Jeremy Favia, Danita Paner and Bela Padilla came in full force to party the night away.

Among the highlights of the fun event were seven DJs spinning, a stunning performance by Dinagyang Festival 2014’s winning tribe (Tribu Panayanon) and a fab lights and stage setup with vivid visuals by copresentor, BluQube Inc.

What a blast we all had! Or as the Ilonggos would say, Ka sadya guid!

Homecoming

Whenever I’m in Iloilo, I stay at my fave oasis, Amigo Terrace Hotel (ATH). I love its homey and cozy feel. It combines Old World charm with modern-day amenities.

Their “Frozen”–themed Christmas décor made my “homecoming” all the more festive.

There are all kinds of restos and shops—and even a casino—at ATH. It’s within walking distance from malls, markets and famous Iloilo landmarks.

Damo guid na salamat to the gracious general manager, Susan Romero, Jude Solar and the rest of the staff for always making me feel so welcome.
