Cecil B. DeMille Award for Clooney
LOS ANGELES—Actor George Clooney will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced Monday.
Clooney, 53, was chosen for his humanitarian work, in particular for speaking out against the genocide in Darfur, said the HFPA. The prize, which honors a celebrity who had a substantial impact on the entertainment industry, will be presented to Clooney at next year’s Globes rites on Jan. 11.
Clooney, who is set to marry British-Lebanese Amal Alamuddin, co-founded “Not On Our Watch,” an organization that works to fight genocides around the world. In 2010, he also co-produced a telethon, “Hope for Haiti,” which raised $66 million for earthquake relief. AFP
