Pinoy docu screens in US comic fest

Pepper Marcelo’s full-length documentary, “Illustrated By,” has been selected for screening at the San Diego (California) Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival on July 25.

The hourlong docu traces the phenomenon of Filipino artists breaking into mainstream US comics. Marcelo says his film pays tribute to many of these “unacknowledged” talents and showcases their artworks.

For several decades, Filipinos have contributed significantly to the mythologies of some of the most famous characters and action heroes, like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and the X-Men.

The San Diego fest, the biggest of its kind in the world, is slated for July 24 to 27. Awards will be given out to the best in each category on July 27.
