Kathryn’s dad thanks Daniel for taking care of her

MANILA, Philippines – Hinting of his approval of her daughter’s on-screen partner, the father of teenage actress Kathryn Bernardo expressed his gratitude to Daniel Padilla during her 18th birthday on Saturday.
“To DJ (Padilla), Thank you for taking care of Kathryn. So far, so good,” Mr. Teodoro Bernardo said in his speech during Bernardo’s star-studded debut.
But does this mean that Bernardo’s father, who is an Iglesia Ni Cristo member, does not mind Padilla being a Catholic?
INQUIRER.net talked over the phone with the younger Bernardo, who said she would rather not comment on the issue.
This was supposedly due to “negative” sentiments from INC, which she did not disclose.
“Wala muna akong comment dahil sa negative sentiment mula sa INC,” Bernardo said in a late phone interview on Monday.
Instead, Bernardo remarked that it was a big deal for her that her father had expressed his approval of Padilla
“Of course, importante ‘yun sa kahit anong relasyon,” Bernardo said.
(Of course, [a parent’s approval] is important in every relationship)
She also said she was pleased that Padilla’s family also expressed their support when they attended her debut.
“Kailangan, in a good relationship, mahalaga ang pamilya… Give and take lang kami ni Daniel,” Bernardo said.
(In a good relationship, the family is important.)
In an interview with a television show, Mr. Bernardo remained mum on whether or not he approves of Padilla.
“No comment,” Mr. Bernardo said before laughing. “Let them decide. Wala naman akong magawa kung sila talaga.”
(No comment. Let them decide. I cannot do anything if they will end up together.)
He noted though that he has his trust on Daniel.
“Tuloy ang magandang pagtitiwala ko sa kanya,” Mr. Bernardo said.
(I continue to trust him fully.)
Meanwhile, Bernardo’s mother Mrs. Min Bernardo added that their family trusts Padilla.
“Nakita namin na nagkakatulungan sila sa career at sa love life nila,” Mrs. Bernardo said in the report.
(We can see that they help each other in their careers and love life.)
Bernardo had said one of the reasons she could not commit to Padilla is their differences in religion.
“Religion is one of the factors, but it’s mainly because we don’t want our love life to interfere with our careers right now,” the teenage actress said.
