MANILA, Philippines – The lawyer of celebrity host Vhong Navarro said the latest rape case that surfaced against the actor was cooked up by the camp of Cedric Lee and Deniece Cornejo.
“We’re expecting this pati mga lawyers nila. Mayroon daw silang pasabog,” Atty. Alma Mallonga said in an interview with Inquirer Radio 990 AM on Thursday.
(We’re expecting this, even their lawyers. They say they have an explosive leak.)
“Our understanding is this is going to be the first of other complaints that will be filed,” she added.
Navarro’s lawyer made the statement after a still unidentified woman filed a rape case against the actor before the Pasig city prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
The alleged rape incident supposedly happened in 2010 and that the woman, who met Navarro through a television show, is now in her mid-20s.
“Lumabas na kung anong gusto nilang ipalabas. (Whatever they make it appear to be). But this is all irrelevant in Vhong’s case. Ito ay paninira, pang-di-distract, siguro pang-delay. (This is a demolition job, a diversion, maybe even a delaying tactic.) Unfortunately for them, we will not be distracted,” Mallonga added.
Navarro was embroiled in a celebrity scandal that fixated public attention when the actor was allegedly beaten up by a group of men that included businessman Cedric Lee in the condominium unit of model Deniece Millet Cornejo in upscale Bonifacio Global City in Taguig in January 22.
Cornejo claimed to be raped by Navarro. Meanwhile, Navarro filed criminal charges against Lee and Cornejo.
The National Bureau of Investigation dismissed the possibility that Navarro raped Cornejo, based on the closed-circuit television video footage.
