Celebs’ favorite love songs
Cupid is about to strike again! Will you dodge or surrender? Whatever state your heart is in, you can’t help but be caught up in the Valentine frenzy. Aside from having the longest Christmas celebration, we Pinoys can also boast of a V-Day commemoration with the most concerts by various foreign and local artists.
I asked some celebs what their love anthems are and what it taught them about l’amour. Mine would be “Fall for You “ by Shanice. Even if I keep saying that my heart has reached its quota in the love department, that song serves as my adrenaline shot to keep trying even if it’s exhausting.
Whatever tune your heart is humming, may Valentine’s Day strike the right chord!
VILMA SANTOS
“A Long and Lasting Love,” by Crystal Gayle. We all wish for love that endures. This song reminds us that such a love exists. I’ve been married for 21 years and look forward to many more happy years with Ralph. Adjust, adjust, respect, respect and everything else follows.

RYAN CAYABYAB
One of the first songs I learned to play on the piano by ear is my all-time fave love song, “Two for the Road” (music by Henry Mancini; lyrics by Leslie Bricusse). The music is sentimental and I like the chord progression. But that’s being technical. The lyrics are meaningful and teaches lovers to remain steadfast and faithful. We do that by “living life the way we please.” For, “As long as love still wears a smile, I know that we’ll be two for the road—and that’s a long, long while.”
NOEL CABANGON
“Ang Aking Awitin,” by Bong Gabriel. “I can relate to the song, since I’m torpe. In my younger years, I didn’t have enough guts to tell a girl how I felt so I expressed my feelings through music. The song is a good motivation for guys who are too shy to say “I love you.”
PHOEMELA BARANDA
“Till They Take my Heart Away,” by Claire Marlo. It’s a song for martyrs in love like me. But I’ve learned that, in my relationships, I should leave a little more love for myself.
SHALANI ROMULO
“Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko,” by Sharon Cuneta. Love has its seasons but if it’s true, it will last a lifetime.
AIZA SEGUERRA
“Somewhere in Time,” by John Barry and Roger Williams. It taught me that love knows no time and space.
JESSA ZARAGOZA-AVANZADO
“Glory of Love,” by Peter Cetera. As a kid, I was inspired by its message. I decided it would be my song when I found my Mr. Right—“the man who will fight for [my] honor … the hero [I’ve] been dreaming of.” I am one lucky woman because God blessed me with someone (my husband, Dingdong), who is more than I wished for. We found each other and “Glory of Love” became our song.
