Mendoza heads French festival jury

Filipino filmmaker Brillante Ma. Mendoza heads the main competition jury at this year’s Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, set Feb. 11-18 in France.

A retrospective of 21 Filipino films will be shown in Vesoul, and participating filmmakers Mendoza, Ditsi Carolino and Eduardo Roy Jr. will attend, along with critic Rolando Tolentino, producer Joji Alonso (who produced four films in the retro) and actress Eugene Domingo (who stars in two). Tolentino will join the Netpac (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) jury. Roy’s “Quick Change” competes in the main section.

Lav Diaz’s four-hour epic “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” was screened in Tokyo Saturday, as part of the Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions.

The screening was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. Diaz participated in a question-and-answer session with the audience after the screening. Bayani San Diego Jr.
