VILMA Santos
Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos won best actress for Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Ekstra” at the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival, held in the capital city of Bangladesh from Jan. 10 to 18.
The Dhaka Tribune described Santos as “fabulous.” Santos told the Inquirer, “I am very happy. Apart from the prestige, it’s a great bonus for our hard work.”
Producer Joji Alonso also told the Inquirer that Santos bested 21 other nominees.
Levon Haftvan won best actor for the Iranian film “Parviz.” Iran’s Parviz Shahbazi won best director for “Trapped.”
No best film was chosen among 23 entries.
Jury members included Iranian filmmaker Rasul Sadr Ameli, Liberation War Museum trustee Mofidul Haq and Busan film fest executive programmer Kim Ji-seok.
Santos earlier won best actress in the Directors’ Showcase section of the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival for the same movie.
