Time for Sam and JC to shine

CONCEPCION AND DE VERA. Deserve a good showcase.

Doris Isberto, call center agent: “I’m a fan of Sam Concepcion and JC de Vera, both good-looking, talented, but underutilized actors. Unfortunately, they haven’t been given the right vehicles to shine.

“I think their pretty-boy looks limit the kind of the roles given to them. I hope producers cast them in edgier and more challenging roles, which would make them go beyond winking at girls and looking cute.”

FEATURED STORIES

Hector San Andres, businessman: “I was taken aback when I learned that the PMPC gave the Star Awards’ Best Talent Search Program Host honors to Toni and Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo for ‘The Voice of the Philippines.’ They lack the skills to put contestants at ease and downplay the judges’ obsession with one-upmanship.

“Successful hosting requires a good command of the situation and intriguing insights, two things that the Gonzaga sisters and Domingo lack. In addition, when Toni and Alex sang a Demi Lovato song, it turned out to be a big let-down.”

Lighter side

Jojo Calderon, televiewer: “Now that news about her controversial coming-out has finally simmered down, I wish Charice would focus on her singing career. I’ve read that a new CD featuring OPM covers is in the works. I hope it will finally see the light of day. She can also act on television and reinvent herself as a comedienne. And she can team up again with Aiza Seguerra—it’ll be a delight to see their lighter side!”

Tess Halili-Doce, blogger/photography enthusiast: “Shouldn’t Manny Pacquiao retire now? He’s rich, has proven his worth, brought back hope to Pinoys, and earned his place in boxing history. What else does he want? It’s time to hang up his gloves while he’s at the peak of his career—and concentrate on his duties as a lawmaker!”

Carlos Silverio Bueno, freelance writer: “On Ted Failon’s radio comment regarding a Pag-asa personnel’s demise during the recent storm surge: When media personalities use their ‘responsibility’ for espousing the truth to put down people or institutions due to alleged inadequacy, their exercise of such ‘moral authority’ is insensitive.”
