Director Darryl Yap revealed that “Maid in Malacañang,” a film about the Marcoses, is set to be made into a 16-episode series.

Yap made the confirmation through a statement to ABS-CBN on Wednesday, July 3, as they celebrated the 95th birthday of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

The filmmaker further disclosed that the filming of the series will begin in September. Further details on the project including the cast members and release date have yet to be announced as of this writing.

Meanwhile, aside from Yap, also in attendance at the event were “Maid in Malacañang” cast members Cesar Montano, Ruffa Gutierrez, Diego Loyzaga, Cristine Reyes, Beverly Salviejo and Ella Cruz.

Moments from the celebration were shown by Gutierrez through her Instagram page.

“Happy 95th birthday, Madame Imelda Romualdez Marcos!” the actress greeted the former first lady. “Stay healthy and happy. God bless you!”

Yap, in response to a netizen, also said through his Facebook page that he was among those who organized the party for Imelda, whose birthday falls on the second day of July.

“Maid in Malacañang,” which was criticized for historical distortion, was released in 2022. Its sequel, the 2023 movie “Martyr or Murderer,” tackles the assassination of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. in 1983.
