‘Game of Thrones’ actor Jack Gleeson lands role in ‘The Sandman’

Jack Gleeson, known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in “Game of Thrones,” has joined the cast of the upcoming second season of the drama series “The Sandman.”

Netflix announced the new faces that will bring the characters from the “The Sandman” collections “Seasons of the Mist” and “Brief Lives” to life as season two’s production is currently underway.

Gleeson is set to portray Puck, a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie.

The 32-year-old actor will be joining his fellow “Game of Thrones” stars Gwendoline Christie and Charles Dance, who are series regulars. Christie played Lucifer, and Dance, Roderick Burgess in season one.

After his stint in “Game of Thrones” ended in 2014, Gleeson appeared in the 2020 BBC miniseries “Out of Her Mind” and the Irish thriller “The Land of Saints and Sinners.” Aside from also gracing independent theater, he had a brief cameo in the fourth season of “Sex Education.”

Meanwhile, other new cast members that fans can look forward to in “The Sandman” season two are Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus; Freddie Fox as Loki; Clive Russell as Odin; Laurence O’Fuaran as Thor; Ann Skelly as Nuala; Indya Moore as Wanda; Ann Skelly as Nuala; Douglas Booth as Cluracan; and Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas.

Released in 2022, “The Sandman” is the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular comic book series with the same title. It follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the personification of dreams. After being held captive for 106 years, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm.

Other original cast members include Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, and Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven.

Developed and produced by Allan Heinberg, David S. Goyer and Gaiman, the 11 episodes of season one are currently available on Netflix. 

The official release date for season two has yet to be announced, but series experts are said to be looking ahead to a 2025 premiere date.
