Awarded production designer-visual artist Dante Perez succumbs to pneumonia

MANILA, Philippines—Indie actor-production designer-visual artist Dante Perez passed away due to “pneumonia” on May 28.

He was 56.

His daughter Sidd told the Inquirer that the wake will be held until 7 a.m. of June 2 at the St. Peter’s Memorial Chapels, on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. Cremation is at the same venue at 1 p.m. on June 2.

Perez won best production/visual design at the Gawad Urian and Young Critics’ Circle for Lav Diaz’s “Death in the Land of Encantos” in 2008.

He worked as production designer and actor in other acclaimed Diaz films: “Melancholia” (2008), “Butterflies Have No Memories” (2009), “Century of Birthing” (2011) and “Florentina Hubaldo, CTE” (2012).

Before venturing into films, Perez has been known as a prolific abstract painter.  His works have been exhibited abroad.
