“HARANA”

Two Filipino films have made it to two prestigious screenings in the United States.

Benito Bautista’s “Harana” was shown at the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival, held from April 18 to 21. Known as the CIMM fest, this event “showcases outstanding films, energetic concerts … anything to show just what movies and music mean to each other.”

On the fest website, “Harana” was hailed as “a treasure trove of beautiful Filipino music, a film that rekindles a connection with the past before it is lost.”

Meanwhile, Vincent Sandoval’s “Aparisyon” will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in screenings from July 10 to 15, according to producer Darlene Catly Malimas. Actress Fides Cuyugan-Asensio told the Inquirer how thrilled she was about the Moma screenings. “It’s exciting that our small film is going places.”

“Aparisyon” will be part of the Spring/Summer 2013 season of the Moma’s ContemporAsian film series.

Sandoval said only three other Filipino films had previously been featured in the Moma event: Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s “Tirador,” Adolfo Alix Jr.’s “Adela” and Marlon Rivera’s “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.”
