Ariana Grande opened up about feeling “tired” from maintaining her pop star status, saying that she now wants to shift her focus to acting following her breakout performance in the musical film “Wicked.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Grammy-winning singer admitted that the pressures of the music industry have taken a toll on her, which is why taking on the role of Glinda in “Wicked” somehow healed her.

“At a certain point, you get tired of that [pop star] character, because it is a character,” she told the US magazine. “There are pieces of you and your story that are woven throughout your songwriting, but then, because of the way it travels and becomes sensationalized, it gets away from you.”

“And beneath all of it is just a girl from Boca who loves art, and I think that’s why it’s been such a deeply healing gift to disappear into this character [Glinda]—to take off one mask and put on another,” the singer-actress continued, adding that acting is where her heart and her focus lie at the moment.

Grande, who recently received her first Oscar nomination for her performance as Glinda, previously said that she has no plans to tour at the moment because she is in hopes “to do more films.”

Despite her growing love for acting, the “Thank U, Next” singer emphasized that singing will always be a part of her.

“I kind of have a specific vision for things, and sometimes that will delay them, but I love singing those songs, and I really love performing, [but] being on stage right now, I don’t have a plan for that, but it’ll always be in my life. And I love those songs very much,” she told the Variety Awards Circuit podcast.

Grande released her seventh studio album, “Eternal Sunshine,” in March of last year, while the second part of “Wicked” is set for release in November of this year.
