Regine Velasquez no longer wants to ‘compete with young ones’
Regine Velasquez reiterated to her fans that it is “no longer [her] time,” underscoring that she’s already content with the respect she earned from the public and her colleagues.
Velasquez spoke about this through her TikTok page on Friday, Nov. 22, which coincidentally was after the billing issue her fans raised over an MYX Music Awards 2024 promo material.
“I wanted to talk to you about me saying it’s no longer my time. Because for some reason, people get upset when I say that,” she began. “Don’t panic, don’t get upset—it’s not a bad thing. I’m just being realistic because it’s true.”
“It’s no longer my time, that means I can no longer compete with the young ones,” continued the 54-year-old award-winning singer. “I have been in the industry for almost 40 years and I have been singing all my life. And the truth is even if I can still compete, I really don’t want to anymore.”
Velasquez recounted how she started her career by joining a singing contest, admitting she felt she had to compete for half of her career to establish herself. She then stressed that she’s now enjoying her life as a “mentor.”

Velasquez further noted that she couldn’t wish for more as she was blessed with much more opportunities than she asked for.
“I just want to be thankful… I’m so thankful that I have a life,” she stated. “I am a wife now and I am a mother and that’s another side of me that I am enjoying so much.”
“Syempre ‘yung pagiging artist nasa DNA ko na ‘yon, pero meron akong buhay and I love that I have that,” she underscored.
Concluding the video, Velasquez expressed her gratitude to her fans, also reminding the public to be kind.
