Veteran singer Noel Cabangon earns music degree at 60
Singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon happily announced that he has earned his bachelor’s degree in music, as he stated that “chasing one’s dream should never stop.”
The “Kanlungan” singer took to Instagram to share photos from his graduation ceremony at Philippine Women’s University (PWU). In one of the snaps, Cabangon was on stage with his guitar, playing a song for his fellow graduates.
“Chasing your dream never stops. Finally, I got my degree today,” he wrote in his caption as he went on to thank his loved ones. “Go and chase yours, too!”
According to PWU, Cabangon graduated with a Bachelor of Music Major in Popular Music degree under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) of the School of Music.

In 1987, Cabangon formed the group Buklod together with Rene Boncocan and Rom Dongeto. Their band featured songs about the environment, human rights, and politics from their albums “Bukid at Buhay,” “Tatsulok,” and “Sa Kandungan ng Kalikasan.”
After the group disbanded, the 60-year-old singer pursued a solo career and went on to record six solo albums and compose songs for movies and for other artists. He also entered the local theater industry as a musical director.
Aside from singing, Cabangon also tried his hand at acting after he played Jesus Christ in a local production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in 2000.
Over the years, the seasoned singer took home various Awit Awards, including Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist for “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok ko” in 2010 and Album of the Year for his album “Panaginip” in 2012.
Aside from Cabangon, actress Arlene Muhlach also graduated from the same university with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
Showbiz personalities are recently returning to school to earn their degrees regardless of age and career. Geneva Cruz previously announced she returned to college to pursue a longtime dream, while Ejay Falcon and Jhong Hilario also recently graduated from college.
