Glaiza de Castro revealed that she was hospitalized while preparing for the “Encantadia” remake in 2016, after she underwent extreme dieting—eating only eggs, bananas and quinoa—due to pressure.

The actress recounted this instance during her guesting at the TV show “Sarap, ‘Di Ba?” last Saturday, April 6.

The topic was brought up during the hot seat segment, after her “Encantadia” co-star Gabby Garcia asked her to confirm if she was once hospitalized for being very “dedicated” to a role.

“Nung nagpe-prepare po ako for ‘Encantadia’ nung 2016—sobra kasing pressured ako nung mga panahon na ‘yon kasi nga ‘yung warrior costume, tapos may gagampanan kaming roles na tumatak talaga sa viewers,” she explained.

De Castro noted that she had “big shoes to fill,” pertaining to her role as Pirena, portrayed by actress Sunshine Dizon in the original TV series in 2005.

“So parang sobra ‘yung workout ko tapos hindi ako masyadong nagka-carbs noon. Ang carbs ko was ‘yung saging na saba tapos may quinoa naman ako at itlog,” she recalled. “Sobrang hindi balanse ‘yung diet ko.”

De Castro did not expound on what happened to her, although she admitted that she had nutrient deficiency at the time.

Meanwhile, De Castro will reprise her role as Pirena in the Encantadia spin-off series “Sang’gre.” The upcoming GMA series will feature the new “brilyante” keepers Bianca Umali, Kelvin Miranda, Angel Guardian and Faith Da Silva.
