Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara expecting second baby
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are expecting their second child, as the actress debuted her baby bump at a recent red carpet.
During the premiere of her new film “La Cocina” (The Kitchen) at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany on Friday, Feb. 16, the “Carol” actress stepped out wearing a strapless, black dress while caressing her baby bump.
Despite no official confirmation from the couple, US media have reported the news and reached out to the couple for statements.
In August 2020, Mara gave birth to their first child, River, who was named after Phoenix’s late brother, who died of a drug overdose at the age of 23.
When Mara gave birth to River, the couple did not publicly announce it; it was filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky who revealed the news after working with the “Joker” actor.

The “Nightmare Alley” actress also spoke on the LaunchLeft podcast and said raising a child with Phoenix has been a “creative” process.
“It feels like a creative household; we’re constantly talking about creative things,” she said. “It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first three and a half years we were together. Basically, since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times, and one was really small and short.”
The couple met on the set of the movie “Her” in 2012, and have been private about their relationship since then, even when they tied the knot in a quiet wedding in 2019.
