Even if motherhood is not Heart Evangelista’s topmost priority at the moment, she couldn’t help but feel wistful as she recalled the pain of losing her twins in a miscarriage back in 2018.

Evangelista admitted in an episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” last May 12 that while having a baby is not her priority, she didn’t realize “how much [she] wanted it so badly” as soon as she got pregnant.

“In the beginning, I must say, kasi ako iyong bunso sa pamilya namin, and my mom was very, like, hardcore in terms of kailangang perfect ka, kailangang ganyan ka,” she began. “So having a baby was not really a priority for me ‘cause I have always been trained to be a go-getter, hardworking, no vacations, so noong time na ‘yun, takot ako mabuntis even if I was married.”

(In the beginning, I must say since I was the youngest in the family, and my mom was very, like, hardcore in terms of you need to be perfect or you need to become a certain type of person. So having a baby was not really a priority for me because I have always been trained to be a go-getter, hardworking, no vacations, so at that time, I was scared to get pregnant even if I’m already married.)

But the actress-socialite had a change of heart after her babies started growing inside of her.

“But when I got pregnant, I didn’t realize how much I wanted it so badly. And it changed me a lot because I didn’t think I would be a good mom. I didn’t think that I wanted to be a mom. But that’s something that I was very thankful for because even for a brief…” she paused before going emotional.

When she had composed herself, she said, “Bakit ganun (Why am I becoming like this)?”

“[Even for a brief moment], I’ve realized that I can be a better person,” she continued. “And not necessarily that you have to give birth, or not necessarily that you have to physically be a mom, but the idea [of what] my angels made me feel, good enough for me.”

During the interview, Abunda asked if the “I Left My Heart in Sorsogon” star still wants to be a mom.

“I don’t know,” she said in response. “Honestly, I don’t know. If I’ll be a mom, why not? I remember at that time, pinagdasal ko na find your way back to me in any form. And for me, hindi ko pinipilit ang mga bagay-bagay (I don’t want to force things). I don’t allow myself to be heartbroken dahil may mga bagay na hindi binigay sa’kin (because there are some things that weren’t given to me).”

‘We’re okay’

Evangelista also said that her relationship with her husband, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, is in a good place after a seeming rough patch in mid-2022, although Abunda chose to not pry about their past rift.

“It’s not just marriage but friendships as well and people you work with. But everybody goes through problems and I felt that as individuals, even if you’re married or committed to someone or a friend, you really have to go through certain things and deal with them alone and really ponder about what you want in life,” she said.

The actress-socialite also can’t help but gush about Escudero, saying that he’s the type of partner who always respects the “many seasons of my life that I’m going through.”

“Chiz and I, you know, he’s 15 years older than me. I’m a late bloomer and there’s some things I just discovered and that’s why it works because he’s so supportive. And I really appreciate him because of that. His love is very unconditional, that’s why we’re okay,” she added.

Evangelista, who tied the knot with Escudero in 2015, announced that she was expecting twins in May 2018, but suffered a miscarriage a month later. Her babies were only around three months at the time.

The couple fueled separation rumors in September 2022 after she admitted that she’s “going through a lot of personal stuff” in her life. They seemingly got back together months later, where they spent New Year’s Day and enjoyed a Japan trip with Escudero’s children. EDV
