Elijah Canlas on his love for girlfriend Miles Ocampo: She deserves it
I give her the love that she deserves,” said actor Elijah Canlas when asked how expressive he is of his love to girlfriend Miles Ocampo.
In a lengthy Instagram post uploaded over a week ago, Miles disclosed that she underwent surgery in March after being diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Miles claimed to have not been her “normal self” since late 2022, and would wake up in the middle of the night due to difficulty breathing. She would also get easily tired and often felt frustrated with her weight gain. She finally chose to undergo thyroidectomy.
Also in her post, she thanked Elijah, whom she called by his second name, Luiz, for “encouraging me to face my fears with doctors and hospitals, to prioritize myself and love myself.”
“Am I a romantic boyfriend? It’s better to ask her,” Elijah told Inquirer Entertainment. “Actually, I think I am. I express my love using almost all of the love languages—quality time, touch and acts of service. In fact, during her last birthday, I made her a video, which I arranged to be shown in a movie theater. It actually feels funny talking about it because it’s like I’m too proud of myself.”
The actor added: “She really deserves it. She deserves nothing but the best from people who love her.”

Elijah also talked about how supportive he and Miles are of each other when it comes to their acting careers. “We watched ‘Live Scream’ and ‘About Us But Not About Us’ together. She would whisper to me, ‘I’m proud of you’ again and again,” he recalled. “We were only five months into the relationship when I started working on ‘About Us.’ She really helped me prepare for it. It took me a week to memorize the whole script. We would throw lines. The script takes an hour and a half to finish, and she would read it with feelings because, after all, she is also an actress.”

We would consult each other about anything that’s work related. Together, we would read scripts of projects that were offered to us. I was able to read her script for ‘Batang Quiapo’ and even gave her suggestions on how to best attack some of her scenes,” he said. “We are ‘that’ kind of couple. We would ask each other, ‘Do you think this project is OK? Do you personally know this director? What can you say about him or her?’ We are both happy and pleased to see our ‘final products.’ One of us would say, ‘You were just working on that project, and now it’s been released. You did it!’”
He jokingly revealed that, “Aside from the usual food-trip or movie-watching dates, we would hang out and discuss work. We’re like that. I guess this is the plus side of having a show biz partner,” he added.
Does he think Miles feels pressured having an award-winning actor for a boyfriend? “I really don’t know. That’s nothing to me, really. Off-cam, I’m just a normal person. What I always tell her about work is to, ‘Just give our best in everything that we do. If you need help, you can always ask me.’ That’s what she is like to me, as well,” said Elijah. INQ
