Vilma Santos sent fans gushing as she treated them to a peek at her reunion with veteran actor Christopher de Leon for an upcoming project.

Santos and De Leon, who were a popular onscreen match-up in the 1970s up to the 2000s, were close to each other while posing for a photo against a green screen backdrop, as seen on Santos’ Instagram page on Tuesday, March 7. The veteran actress had her arms wrapped around De Leon while he was leaning toward her and holding her hand.

Santos announced during a press launch in February that she would be having a reunion project with De Leon. She said it would be a romantic-drama film to be shot in Japan and co-directed by De Leon. It was not immediately known if their recent photoshoot was for the said film.

Santos and De Leon starred in more than 20 films together, including “Haplos” (1982), “Broken Marriage” (1983), “Imortal” (1989) and “Dekada ‘70” (2002).

Meanwhile, the actor was one of the guests at Santos’ “Vilma, Anim na Dekada” 60th anniversary special aired last Feb. 20. In the said episode, De Leon admitted to having special feelings for Santos in the past but said the timing was never right for them.  /ra
