James Reid on Tuesday came to the defense of Liza Soberano in the wake of criticisms being hurled at her over her revelation of her past frustrations as an actress, with an advise for her to “stick to her guns.”

The Filipino-American actress is currently being managed by Careless, a label founded by Reid, who was incidentally also a former Kapamilya.

Speaking to TV 5 reporter MJ Marfori, Reid said the actress, who now wants to be addressed as “Hope,” said that she may be feeling the weight of her decision to leave her mother network, ABS-CBN, especially after she admitted feeling boxed in as an actress, one who was giving into the “pressure of doing what everybody else wants,” working “side-by-side with one main co-star, same production company, rotating around the same three directors,” and not being asked for her input as an actress.

“People would think that you are crazy when they do not understand what you’re trying to do,” he told Marfori in the interview, a snippet of which she posted on her Instagram.

“I think, my advice to her would be stick to her gun, stick to what she believes in and eventually, when she turns around, she’ll find something she’s proud of,” he added.

In another video post on the same day, Soberano was asked to comment about some ABS-CBN executives who seemingly alluded to her as being ungrateful, considering her many projects with the network.

“I just wanna say that I’m grateful for everything that I have achieved, everything that I’ve experienced in life. I feel I have never failed to express that every time I have the chance. I always say how thankful I am to everybody that has been a part of my journey and my life,” she said.

Now that she is rebranding herself, Soberano said she is “especially grateful to everyone now who is supporting me with this change and this growth that I am pursuing in my career and my personal life.”

“I hope that they continue to support people like me who constantly takes risks and are pushing them to their boundaries,” she said. EDV
