Agot Isidro, Nikki Valdez speak up about ‘Family Matters’ winning a single award at MMFF 2022 Gabi ng Parangal

“Family Matters” stars Agot Isidro and Nikki Valdez have aired their thoughts about the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry bagging a single award at the festival’s awards night Tuesday, Dec. 27
The family-oriented film took home the GatPuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award at the 48th MMFF Gabi ng Parangal. “Family Matters” was also nominated for Best Musical Score, Best Original Theme Song, Gender Sensitivity Award, Best Supporting Actor (Nonie Buencamino) and Best Actor (Noel Trinidad).
Isidro admitted on her personal Twitter account that she initially felt disappointed that “Family Matters” was not nominated for other major awards.
“Nagsama sama ang pamilya Florencio kagabi except kay Mommy & Daddy. Umuwi na medyo disappointed na hindi napansin man lang ang ibat ibang aspeto ng aming pelikula. Although, Salamat sa Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award. Much appreciated,” she said.
(The members of the Florencio family came together last night, except for Mommy and Daddy. I was rather disappointed that the film was not recognized in various categories, although I’m thankful for the Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award. Much appreciated.)
Despite the results of the MMFF awards night, the actress remained thankful for the film earning rave reviews and support from fans.
“Ang nakakapagluwag ng aming dibdib ay ang messages of support, lahat ng glowing reviews, posts na hinihimay ang storya, mga reaksyon pagkalabas ng sinehan. Hangad namin na ang mga aral na natutunan at natuklasan uli ay inyong isasapuso,” she said.

Isidro also thanked her supporters for taking the time to watch “Family Matters” in cinemas.
“Hindi bale wala sa amin yun. If anything, dito pa lang sobrang panalo na kami. Maraming, maraming Salamat sa suporta. Inaasahan namin na mas marami pa ang manonood,” she added.
(It doesn’t matter if the film receives awards or not. If anything, the [positive reviews] make us feel like we’re big winners. Thank you very much for your support. We hope that more people get to watch our film.)

On the other hand, Valdez took to her Twitter account on Wednesday, Dec. 28, to express gratitude to moviegoers who view “Family Matters” as a “blessing” after seeing the film.
“Hindi man kami nanominate sa napakaraming categories kagabi, pinakamasarap na award na sa amin ang marinig sa karamihan na ‘blessing’ ang pelikula namin sa kanila. Dun palang, panalong panalo na kami,” she began. “Imagine, buong buhay dadalhin ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino sa puso nila ang #FamilyMatters? MISSION ACCOMPLISHED na.”
(Even if [“Family Matters”] was not nominated in several categories last night, the best award for us is to hear people saying that the film was a “blessing” for them. In that case, we’ve already won. Imagine, many families would take the lessons of “Family Matters” to heart? Mission accomplished, then.)

“Family Matters” stars Noel Trinidad, Liza Lorena, Agot Isidro, Nikki Valdez, Nonie Buencamino and JC Santos; and is directed by Nuel Naval. The film tells the story of how real-life events can affect the dynamics between a senior couple and their four children.
Meanwhile, “Deleter” was the big winner at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal as it brought home seven awards including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Cinematography, among others. /ra
