Blake Shelton to exit ‘The Voice’ as Chance the Rapper, Niall Horan join

Blake Shelton will no longer be turning his chair as a coach in the singing competition “The Voice” as he will be leaving after its 23rd season.

The country singer, who has been in “The Voice” since it premiered in 2011, announced his departure from the show via a statement on his Instagram page today, Oct. 12 (Oct. 11 in the United States).

“I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from ‘The Voice’ after next season. This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me,” he said.

Shelton described his over 12-year journey in “The Voice” as “a hell of a ride” and thanked everyone involved in producing the show.

“I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson (Daly) and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!” he said. Daly is the host of “The Voice,” who has also been in the singing competition since its first season.

Shelton then expressed gratitude to the contestants who took the stage of “The Voice,” especially those who chose him to be their coach.

“Lastly, it’s about [you all], the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at ‘The Voice’ who are chasing their dreams. It would not happen without you!” he added.

Following Shelton’s departure, “The Voice” teased that Chance the Rapper and former One Direction member Niall Horan will be joining as new coaches, as seen on its Instagram page today. Singer Kelly Clarkson will also be returning as a coach.
