MANILA, Philippines — Comedy King Rodolfo “Dolphy” Vera Quizon’s condition Thursday has been “the best so far” since he was admitted at the Makati Medical Center last week, one of his children, said Friday morning.

In a text message to INQUIRER.net around 8:30 a.m., Ronnie Quizon said that while there really wasn’t any update on his father’s health, “yesterday was so far the best day since he went to the hospital.”

He said even the doctors told them that they could go home and take some rest after keeping a close watch on their father who remained at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

“Pag gabi kasi, we let our father rest, and evry1 [everyone] tries to get some rest too,” Ronnie said.

He said something only happens at night when there’s an emergency, but added that “nothing” bad happened Thursday night.

“So to us, no news is good news at night,” Dolphy’s son said.

Actor-director Eric Quizon, Dolphy’s other son and family-appointed spokesman, told reporters Thursday that Dolphy’s vital signs improved Wednesday night until Thursday morning, prompting his doctors to give the “go” signal for a dialysis for the actor’s failing kidneys.

“This will help my father by removing the excess bodily fluids in his kidneys. He also had a blood transfusion,” Eric said.

He said, however, that Dolphy’s platelets remained low and that there was hemorrhage or internal bleeding.

Nonetheless, they found a “glimmer of hope” after Dolphy opened his eyes and looked around his room, Eric said.

Eric said his father had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for the last five years.
