MANILA, Philippines—Without courting controversies like some recent shows of foreign acts, the upcoming “Back 2 Back Ultimate Concert” of American singers Taylor Dayne and  Edwin McCain promises to give Filipino fans and all music lovers good and clean fun.

To be held at Waterfront Hotel in Cebu on May 30 and at the SM MOA Arena in Manila on June 1, the show features hit songs like Dayne’s “Tell It To My Heart,” “Prove Your Love,” “I’ll Always Love You,” “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” “With Every Beat Of My Heart,” “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” “Don’t Rush Me,” “Heart Of Stone,” “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love,” and “Love Will Lead You Back;” and McCain’s “I’ll Be,” “Write Me A Song,” “Beautiful Life,” “Walk With You,” and “I Could Not Ask For More.”

Dayne burst into the scene in the late ‘80s with two dance songs that entered the Billboard charts consecutively and across platforms including the adult contemporary one. But before people can dismiss her as just another polished pop tart with a searing voice that’s buoyed by a big label, she proved her versatility by logging in a ballad on top of the chart via the unforgettable “I’ll Always Love You.”

Upon releasing her second album titled “Can’t Fight Fate,” she upped the ante further by producing the now modern pop-classic “Love Will Lead You Back” that has become the theme song of hopeless romantics everywhere even many years down the line. She also lodged in the rocker “I’ll Be Your Shelter” which was rumored to have been written with Tina Turner in mind.

Since then, the diva has released other albums as well as contributed tracks to some hit original soundtrack albums including for the movies “The Lizzie McGuire Movie,”  “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “The Shadow.” Dayne has also dabbled in acting appearing on Broadway in Elton John’s “Aida” and in the films “Jesus The Driver,” “Love Affair” and “Stag.” She is said to currently be working on remastering her Greatest Hits album.

McCain, on the other hand, is best known for the song “I’ll Be” that has two versions, one with a full band and an acoustic interpretation. He also won the hearts of the world with his ultra-romantic ditty, “I Could Not Ask For More” with a chorus that’s hard not to sing along to, and so has become a karaoke staple to many.

Both tunes electrified the music scene in the late ‘90s and easily crossed over to the following decade. Even nowadays, these two tunes are frequently heard on the local airwaves and they often find their way into the set list of concerts by local singers, too, being most requested tunes. Like Dayne, the hitmaker has released a Best-Of album, a 20-year career retrospective.

The show is produced by Blue Dream and supported by Astroplus, MYX, Manila Concert Scene and Edsa Shangri-La hotel, among others. Guest in the show is R&B Prince Jay-R.
