When asked about what she can say to young women facing the challenges of today, Harnaaz Sandhu of India encouraged them to be brave and stand up for themselves.
“Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life,” Sandhu said, and with that answer she won the title of Miss Universe 2021, in the pageant held at Eilat, Israel today, Dec. 13. She also won the hearts of pageant aficionados all over the world.

Aside from her evident beauty and allure, Sandhu proved herself to be a woman of substance with her answer. There is actually a lot more to learn from this amazing young queen. Here’s just some of the basic facts her new fans can start immersing themselves into:
- Sandhu has a bachelor’s degree in Information and Technology.
- She is also taking up her masters in Public Administration.
- She supports advocacies that address climate change.
- A Bollywood actress, she has appeared in some Punjabi films such as “Yaara Diyan Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange.”
- Aside from being an actress, she is also a model.
- Her hobbies include horseback riding and playing chess.
- She is the third Indian to have won the title of Miss Universe, after Sushmita Sen in 1994 (in a pageant held in the Philippines) and Lara Dutta in 2000.
- At the age of 17, she started joining beauty pageants.
- Prior to being Miss Universe, she was crowned Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and Miss Diva 2021 in India.
- Priyanka Chopra is her favorite actress, another beauty queen who was Miss World 2000.
