WATCH: ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ movie starring Ben Platt drops official trailer
The film adaptation of hit Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” starring Tony award-winning actor Ben Platt who is reprising his role as the titular high school misfit, released its official trailer yesterday, May 18.
“Dear Evan Hansen” tells the story of Evan Hansen, a teenager who writes letters to himself as he struggles with isolation in high school. However, his classmate Connor Murphy got hold of one of his anxiety-laden letters and took his life with Evan’s letter in his pocket, leading the Murphy family to believe it was a suicide note addressed to Evan.
Evan eventually gets caught in a complicated lie pretending to be Connor’s friend, through fabricated stories about their supposed adventures together, as seen in the trailer released on Universal Picture’s YouTube channel.
“Dear Evan Hansen” stars six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams, Oscar winner Julianne Moore, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Colton Ryan, Nik Dodani, DeMarius Copes and Danny Pino.
Article continues after this advertisementIt was directed by Stephen Chbosky and adapted for film by Steven Levenson, from his stage musical written with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. It features the original Broadway musical’s songs such as “You Will Be Found,” “Waving Through a Window,” “For Forever” and “Words Fail.” Universal Pictures will distribute the film on Sept. 24.
